Der gebürtige US-Amerikaner mit Wohnsitz in Rotterdam sieht sich selbst als Geschichtenerzähler und Sozialbildhauer. Als multidisziplinärer Künstler schafft Preis Teilnahmewerke, deren Charaktere und Objekte ihre ästhetische Sprache unterstreichen.

The US born, the multidisciplinary artist who sees himself as a storyteller and social sculptor now lives and works in Rotterdam, where he creates participatory works of art, where characters and objects are developed to reinforce their aesthetic languages.

CHRISTIAN AWE (D)

Seit dem Start der Malereikarriere als Graffitikünstler in den Straßen Berlins in den frühen 90ern probierte Awe diverse Methoden, Stile und Gattungen aus: Kalligrafie, Design, Architektur und Malerei, welcher er bis heute treu blieb. Seine Bilder dominiert eine einzigartige Symbiose von Graffiti und abstraktem Expressionismus, welcher sich vor allem durch fließende Farben als Bewegungs-, Rhythmus- und Überleitungsmittel auszeichnet.

His painting career began as a graffiti writer on the streets of Berlin in the early 90s, Since then Christian Awe has transitioned through multiple spheres from graffiti to calligraphy, design, architecture and finally painting. His work with painting is a unique symbiosis of graffiti and abstract expressionism that utilizes flowing colors as transitions, movement, and rhythm.

DAN WITZ (USA)

Die Arbeiten des in Brooklyn lebenden Pioniers der Street Art Entwicklung sind dualistisch. Zum einen beschäftigt sich Witz mit zeitgenössischen städtischen Lebensformen, ausgeführt im Stil des fantastischen Realismus. Andererseits arbeitet er auch heute noch auf der Straße und bedient sich dabei an Schockmomenten und witzigen Umformungen des städtischen Environments.

The works of the Brooklyn based artist and pioneer in the street art movement are dualistic. On the one side he deals with contemporary urban forms of living, on the orther he still works streets incorporating shocking moments and funny conversions of the urban enviroment.

KATRIN FRIDRIKS (ICE)

Die gebürtige Isländerin Katrin Fridriks verbindet die natürlichen Energien ihrer Heimat mit abstraktem Expressionismus und japanischen Kalligrafiezeichen, welche in Installationen zu einem großen Ganzen zusammengefügt werden, wobei die visuellen Inhalte Raum, Form und Zeit umfassen. Durch die Schaffung neuer Perspektiven fügt Fridriks der Abstraktion eine neue Dimension hinzu.

Iceland born Katrin Fridriks fuses the natural energies of her native Iceland with a clever and subtle abstract expressionism and Japanese calligraphiy, all filtred through conceptual installations. Her pictorial substance envelops space, shape and time. Creating new perspectives, Fridriks’ work brings an innovative dimension to abstraction.

LIES MACULAN (A)

Lies Maculan vereint in ihren Arbeiten Fotografie, Objekt und Installation. Den Anspruch auf die damit entstehende dritte Dimension ihrer Fotoskulpturen begegnet Maculan auf einer haptischen Ebene: Durch das Ausschneiden von Motiven verleiht sie den lebensgroßen oder überdimensionalen Fotografien eine dreidimensional erlebbare Wirkung, wodurch sie ihrem Werk einen skulpturalen Charakter verleiht.

Lies Maculan's work unites photography, object and installation. The thereby emerging third dimension of the photo sculptures are met by Maculan on an atactile level: By cutting out motives, the life-sized or oversized photographs have a tangible three-dimensional effect, thereby giving her work a sculptural character.

LOW BROS (D)

Das in Berlin ansässige Urban-Art-Duo Low Bros, bestehend aus den Brüdern Qbrk und Nerd, zeichnet sich stilistisch durch die Verschmelzung von geometrischen Formen, mystischen Tiefen und expressiven Farben aus.
Entscheidend ist dabei das Zusammenwirken von 2 und 3-dimensionalen, als auch von naturellen und urbanen Elementen. Durch diesen Stilmix entsteht die eigene visuelle Sprache der Low Bros.

The art collective Low Bros consists of two brothers, Qbrk and Nerd, who currently live and work in Berlin. In their art you find both influences, the urbanic and natural. Typical in their work are characters with a comic and geometric style influenced by the "street art oeuvre".

MARK JENKINS (USA)

Der in Washington lebende Künstler wurde berühmt durch seine aus Klebeband gefertigten Installationen im Straßenraum. Dabei nutzt Jenkins die Straße als Bühne, auf der Passanten zu Akteuren werden. So sieht er auch die Sicherheitskräfte, die oftmals von seinen Installationen auf den Plan gerufen werden, als Mitspieler an und wartet ab, was passiert.

The Washington based artist is most widely known for the street installations he creates using box sealing tape. Jenkins uses and transforms the street to a stage where the pedestrians become actors. Whenever his art work attracts the attention of security forces, Jenkins sees them as supporting cast and waits to see what happens

ROBERT PROCH (D)

Prochs Bilder zeugen von einer großen Vielfalt und evozieren durch ganz bewusste Farbsetzung und eine Mischung aus abstrakten und figurativen Elementen faszinierende Stimmungen. Mal sind es klar erkennbare Charaktere, ein anderes Mal abstrakte Landschaften. Bewegung ist ein sehr großes Thema, das sich auch in seinen Animationen zeigt. Roberts Kurzfilme wurden bereits mehrfach auf verschiedenen europäischen Festivals präsentiert und ausgezeichnet.

Robert Proch's abstract, colourful figurative work has already gained considerable traction in both his native Poland and central Europe. His style is inspired by state-of-the-art animation as much as classic caricature, and impressionism as much as modernist graffiti. But rather than being 'gritty' or downbeat Proch's work is dynamic, arresting and often strangely encouraging: he presents an augmented emotional reality that remains pleasing to identify with. Also a successful animator, Proch's grasp of movement and the distinct manner in which he employs it is central to the beguiling nature of his work.

SatOne konstruiert mit seinen nichteuklidischen geometrischen Abstraktionen und futuristisch anmutenden Formen eine förmliche aber nicht greifbare Welt; eine Welt, in der die räumliche Wirkung existiert ohne jedoch durch klassische physikalische Gesetze in ihrer Ausprägung predeterminiert zu sein.

The skilled graphic designer discovered his interest in graffiti in early life, developed his very own style in an intensive way and found a formal vocabulary, that perpetrated a fascinating middle course between technocracy and the artwork of imaginary worlds. The figures seem futuristicabstract, still don´t miss a certain clemency by having organic forms and faces.

Das Berliner Künstlerduo Various & Gould wird von der Liebe zu Papier und der Begeisterung für zufällige Schönheit im Alltag vereint. In ihren Arbeiten, welche sich visuell und inhaltlich zwischen Pop Art und Dada bewegen, nehmen sie gesellschaftlich relevante Themen spielerisch in Angriff.

The Berlin based artist duo Various & Gould share mutual interests, like their love for paper or the enthusiasm for accidental beauty in the everyday life. They playfully take on serious themes utilizing mediums such as screen-printing and collage. Influenced by poster graphics, Dada and also Pop Art, vivid colors combined with words as well as aphorisms are characteristics for their works.

WK INTERACT (USA)

Der gebürtige Franzose und einer Street Art Pionier WK Interact lebt und arbeitet in New York. Der Künstler ist fasziniert von den Bewegungen des menschlichen Körpers; eine Vorliebe, die stark in seinen Werken, die oft Figuren in sequenzieller Aktion zeigen, reflektiert wird. Originalbilder oder Fotos werden verdreht kopiert, was Bewegungsabläufe und stromlinienförmige Momentaufnahmen als Resultat hervorbringt.

WK Interact was born in France and currently lives and works in New York. WK is fascinated by the human body in motion; an infatuation strongly reflected in his works, which often capture figures frozen in a flight of movement. The artist’s technique of twisting an original drawing or photograph while being photocopied results in the monochromatic palette and streamlined moment-in-time appearance of his finished work.
