Stefan Strumbel
Stefan Strumbels (1979) Kunst bedient sich traditioneller Motive, die mit seiner eigenen Heimat, dem Schwarzwald, assoziiert werden. Auf einer abstrakten Ebene setzt sich Strumbel mit den Paradigmen von „Heimat“ auseinander und hinterfragt den Begriff gleichzeitig.
Die Kultur- und Kultgegenstände, die er mit dem Begriff Heimat verbindet, werden von Strumbel mit Stilelementen der Urban Art und der Pop Art überzeichnet und in einen neuen, teils provokanten Kontext gestellt. Er ersetzt beispielsweise signifikante Elemente der Kuckucksuhr, wie Schnitzereien ursprünglicher Heimatsymbole, durch aggressive Motive die mit Gewalt, Pornografie und Tod assoziiert werden.
Zu Stefan Strumbels Sammlern zählen Karl Lagerfeld und Hubert Burda.
Stefan Strumbel’s (1979) art utilises traditional motifs that are then associated with his homeland of the Black Forest in Germany. On his abstract level, Strumbel deals with the paradigms of “homeland” while at the same time questioning the very concept.
The cultural and pop-culture objects that he connects with the term homeland are over-exaggerated by Strumbel with style elements from urban and pop art and placed in a new and partly provocative context. In doing so he employs significant elements of the cuckoo clock such as cut-out series of the original homeland symbols through aggressive motifs that are then associated with violence, pornography and death.
Stefan Strumbel’s work is collected by Karl Lagerfeld and Hubert Burda.
